The field was still a soggy mess. I tried to go over to the shot put, but they had plenty of help. Finally, I wandered over to high jump and they also had everything covered. I then headed to the pole vault pit to enjoy the meet.</div><div><br /></div><div>The girls and boys competed together and the opening height was 4 feet.</div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>4'-0" make</li><li>4'-6" make</li><li>5'-0" make</li><li>5'-6" make</li><li>6'-0" make</li><li>6'-6" miss</li></ul><div>I was really impressed with her form. Among the JV girls there from four different schools, she was second place to a vaulter from Evergreen who cleared 6'-6", but missed 7'-0". Tae's dad was there again giving pointers.</div></div><div><br /></div><div>With the discus canceled, her second event was the 800 meters. She had a clean start and came through with the middle of the pack at 1:40, before slowing down. Her final time of 3:44 was a big improvement over her first meet when she finished in 4:08.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHAoocp8dE_kHJqlIf7rgwx-Gp4VX0kv9gxx1Bbzt4wPElP7H1RDRr7arjG8HFdDnmG-xRSxK5vdKKB80ed87FSjRiWn1ujThui7k9JsWVvwc4OIV4IZaXrYeR0nnQoiUJ_VDKckYhslPpmy1ouj2fPN2KOPvxPoA-gwOmhY3Ob3-znSW_iryyPw/s4000/20240327_174824.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHAoocp8dE_kHJqlIf7rgwx-Gp4VX0kv9gxx1Bbzt4wPElP7H1RDRr7arjG8HFdDnmG-xRSxK5vdKKB80ed87FSjRiWn1ujThui7k9JsWVvwc4OIV4IZaXrYeR0nnQoiUJ_VDKckYhslPpmy1ouj2fPN2KOPvxPoA-gwOmhY3Ob3-znSW_iryyPw/s320/20240327_174824.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i>800m staring line</i></div><br /><div><br /></div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-41482009206615402672024-03-26T20:46:00.000-07:002024-03-26T20:46:41.520-07:00D'Evelyn vs Chatfield V2/JV - 3/26/2024D'Evelyn V2/JV headed to Ken Caryl Ranch for their a match against Chatfield. For a lot of the girls it was their first match ever. The facilities were really nice and it seemed like all of the girls had fun. Chatfield had some very talented girls.<div><br /></div><div>The matches were one set with sudden death at deuce. This caused the games to move pretty fast and finished between 30-45 minutes. It was a pleasant 45 degrees and sunny at the start of the first game, but the temperature easily dropped 5-10 degrees by the finish of the second game.<br /><div><br /></div><div><b>Game 1: D2</b></div><div><br /></div><div>D'Evelyn started off serving and lost the first 3 games, before rallying with a couple of wins. Ultimately, Chatfield's D2 finished up 6-3. Nisha played well with her partner, but the power displayed by Chatfield was difficult to match. If not for some strong net play by D'Evelyn and unforced errors by Chatfield, the score would not have been as close.</div></div><div><br /></div><div>Nisha felt good about her play, but admitted the speed was a big step up from her match against Bear Creek. She did roll her ankle near the end of the match, but shook it off.</div><div><br /></div><div><u>Stats:</u></div><div>9 first serves</div><div>2 second serves</div><div>0 aces</div><div>1 double faults</div><div><br /></div><div>3 forehand winners</div><div>9 forehand errors</div><div>0 backhand winners</div><div>1 backhand error</div><div><br /></div><div>3 forehand volley winners</div><div>0 forehand volley errors</div><div>0 backhand volley winners</div><div>0 backhand volley errors</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Game 2: JV</b></div><div><br /></div><div>D'Evelyn again started off serving both team lost when serving the first 4 games. A lot of this was double faults and the absence of getting a rally going. D'Evelyn secured the win taking 4 of the last 5 games with a final score of 6-3.</div><div><br /></div><div>Nisha felt good about her play. The tempo of the match was decidedly slower.</div><div><br /></div><div><div><u>Stats:</u></div><div>9 first serves</div><div>1 second serves</div><div>0 aces</div><div>1 double faults</div><div><br /></div><div>5 forehand winners</div><div>2 forehand errors</div><div>1 backhand winners</div><div>2 backhand error</div><div><br /></div><div>0 forehand volley winners</div><div>1 forehand volley errors</div><div>0 backhand volley winners</div><div>0 backhand volley errors</div></div><div><br /></div><div>I enjoyed keeping stats, but it was not easy. I felt like I was losing track by quickly recording Nisha's performance and the score. It was obviously harder when she was serving. I did not track overhead shots of defensive lobs, but I do like the tennis stats tracker written an published by Joel Loo.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-2025501516561117272024-03-13T22:26:00.000-07:002024-03-26T21:08:17.320-07:00Jeffco Non-Qual #1 - 3/13/2024Second track meet of the year and the athletes competed on a cold, rainy day at Jeffco Stadium. Being no cut, 11 girls were selected for varsity, 11 will play in V2 matches and the remaining girls will make up the junior varsity squad.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The V2 team faced off against Bear Creek on Tuesday, March 12. My daughter and her friend Abby were the D3 pairing. Apparently, a team is made of of S1, S2, S3, D1, D2, D3 and D4 with S1 being the strongest singles player and D4 being the weakest double pair. That way matches are more even for the participants.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The girls arrived and starting warming up between 3:30 and 3:45 PM. Introductions were made around 4:00 PM and then players started warming up with their opponents. On the (4) courts, S1, S2, S3 and D1 got underway around 4:15 PM. D2, D3 and D4 were waiting in the wings for courts to free up. D3 started around 5:45 PM and wrapped up around 7:15 PM.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">D3 played well winning the first set 6-1 and the second set 7-6 in a tie break. The tie break rules confused me a bit, but the idea is team 1 serves the first point, then team 2 serves 2 point, then team 1 serves the next 2 points until somebody wins by 2 point. I think the tie break finished at 7-5. My daughter said that it was getting harder to see the ball as it got dark.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As a spectator, I learned to bring a chair and extra warm clothes. As evening settles in Colorado in March it is nice to have a hat, gloves and a thermos of coffee. The players should take similar cues by having proper warm-ups and even hand warmers.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I also learned that I want to start keeping stats. I downloaded a few off of the internet and will start out pretty simple with serves, forehand winners/errors, backhand winners/errors etc.</div><br />Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-75150712082836762652024-03-08T12:55:00.000-08:002024-03-08T12:55:09.635-08:00Dyson Upright VacuumWe bought at Dyson a couple of years ago and have really enjoyed it. You certainly get what you pay for in terms of performance and there is a big difference between a $300 vacuum cleaner and a $90 vacuum cleaner.<div><br /></div><div>However, this morning it did not sound right and was losing suction. I started with the obvious of emptying the tube and cleaning out the brushes. With no luck, I went to the online troubleshooting guide which was amazing. The 3rd place I looked, I found a giant plug of dust, hair, cereal, popcorn and other food crumbs. Clearing this plug of crap out, got it back to normal.</div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-11991113638170373242024-03-06T20:29:00.000-08:002024-03-26T21:07:26.076-07:00DHS JV Track Meet - 3/6/2024<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ67CYwN5DsEc7SkZfOtD18DLGa3aWSayHizwvslF_GC3PztRKeTDbP0Qj-v4R8HLo5DjEAU88bpXKr4DN13JyO1KldYKcOp5Ai-n_0jDBsqTeIhRh7IhPl4N8ai_CAhled-ukyqzpagggWKYF6y2oSLMi6RVrxD_iInV33cHcHEjgr09kZABYxQ/s4000/20240306_171654.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ67CYwN5DsEc7SkZfOtD18DLGa3aWSayHizwvslF_GC3PztRKeTDbP0Qj-v4R8HLo5DjEAU88bpXKr4DN13JyO1KldYKcOp5Ai-n_0jDBsqTeIhRh7IhPl4N8ai_CAhled-ukyqzpagggWKYF6y2oSLMi6RVrxD_iInV33cHcHEjgr09kZABYxQ/s320/20240306_171654.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div>D'Evelyn kicked off its JV track season with the Golden Demons JV Scrimmage. My daughter was slated to run the 800m and despite running late, I made it there in time to see the girls/boys 800m heats and a couple of the girls 400m heats.</div><div><br /></div><div>As expected there was a broad disparity in performance with some girls running around 3:20 in the 800m and some going above 4:00 in the 800m. All respectable times for a first outing. The boys were much faster with some running close to 2:10 and even the slower athletes finishing around 3:00.</div><div><br /></div><div>The girls 400m was quick as well. One of the D'Evelyn runners was in the mid 60s.</div><div><br /></div><div>Diya paced well, coming through 400m at about 1:58 and slowing in the second lap to finish in 4:08. I was beyond impressed with how much progress she has made. When we were at the track this winter, she was jogging along at my plodding 2:30/400m pace. I hope she continues to enjoy it.</div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-55186867087609167162024-02-26T11:39:00.000-08:002024-02-26T11:39:00.721-08:00Goodbye 2023!<div>2023 has been an exciting year marked by a lot of travel and new activities. I finished my fifth year with CDOT. My wife is still with Department of Interior and is an Air Force reservist tied to the US Air Force Academy. My first born started 11th grade at D'Evelyn Junior/Senior High School. My second born started 9th grade at D'Evelyn Junior/Senior High School. My first born had an internship with the United States Air Force at the Academy Aerospace Lab under Mitchell Hageman. She continued with the Dakota Ridge Civil Air Patrol and has been enjoying the meeting and a few orientation flights. My second born took advantage of drop in volleyball and basketball at D’Evelyn.</div><div><br /></div><div>My dental health has been stable, I got the implant placed on the lower left quadrant. My second born got her braces removed in September.</div><div><br /></div><div>Both of my daughters decided to host birthday parties at the house. It seems like our finished basement continues to be the spot. My wife hosted a milestone birthday at Palm Springs with the girls and then we had an Open House at our place. My birthday was in Paris.</div><div><br /></div><div>We traveled quite a bit this year with India in January and Europe in June, I had work trip to Pueblo in January, Columbus in July, Loveland in August, Memphis in August, Orlando in October, and New Jersey in November. I took a road trip to Columbia, MO and Carbondale, CO. Mukesh came to visit in March, Rama came to visit in May, Dave Chong came in July, Namisha and Troy both came to visit in September.</div><div><br /></div><div>Professionally, I started with the Traffic Safety & Engineering group and it has been a good challenge. I have done a lot of training and some field work visiting local agencies in Springfield, Walsenburg, Monte Vista and Cherry Hills.</div><div><br /></div><div>My community involvement stayed low. I did volunteer to help spot and load at a USAPL Powerlifting Meet in February. I tried to volunteer as the Middle School Track Coach, but was never hired on by the city of Lakewood. I did not help out with the band or volleyball team aside from bringing food. I attended 71 AA meetings, but still do not have a home group or a sponsor.</div><div><br /></div><div>In terms of hobbies, I have certainly broadened my horizons. I have continued with the Garage Gym Build. I feel like my spend has somewhat plateaued and I have been selling some items I no longer use. I have stuck with endurance training with two RMRR events, D’Evelyn Dash and the Littlefoot Triathlon. I participated in Bike to Work Day. I competed in Littleton’s Strongest Man, Spring and Fall Garage Gym Competition, AFA Powerlifting and Lakewood’s Strongest Powerlifting. I took up Highland Games attending a throwers clinic and competing in two games in Colorado. I also competed in the King Kong Grip Challenge (Carbondale), Tough Mudder (Byers) and a Deka Mile (Highlands Ranch). I have been more active in USAWA (completing the postal events and the National Championship). I have continued to enjoy archery (22 sessions).</div><div><br /></div><div>No religious involvement year to date.</div><div><br /></div><div>We only had (2) ski days during a President’s Day Weekend trip to Breckenridge.</div><div><br /></div><div>I had (2) days in the Coral Sea including the 4th of July bash.</div><div><br /></div><div>Not much golf this year. Just a few trips to the driving range.</div><div><br /></div><div>I bought (2) capped bust dimes and (2) capped bust half dimes, but unfortunately could not add any Gupta Dynasty coinage. I expanded my numismatic library significantly with (8) individual purchases and the acquisition of two large lots of (35) and (30) books and catalogues. I started attending the Denver Coin Club and Denver Area World Numismatist monthly meetings.</div><div><br /></div><div>I have read (6) book this year. Cryptomania by Neal Stephenson, Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Psychology of Money by Housel, Quit by Duke; Chop Wood Carry Water by Medcalf and Extreme Ownership by Willink. I started Beautiful You and Traffic. Extreme Ownership was my favorite.</div><div><br /></div><div>I have had some big purchases this year including a Highland Games hammer and weight for distance and several grip implements in preparation for the King Kong Grip Contest in October. I got some Bose ear buds. I also picked up a Cervelo C2 triathlon bike and a Concept2 Ski Erg. With gym purchases my favorite so far has been the Reverse Hyperextension and my favorite vintage item was completing the small York Roundheads. Small purchases included travel and EDC accessories.</div><div><br /></div><div>In terms of home improvement, we have not had any significant work done. We did have spice drawers installed in the kitchen. We also had some landscaping done.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Philadelphia Eagles lost in a heartbreaker to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Texas Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks in the World Series (I actually enjoyed the American League and National League pennant races more than the World Series). Jeffry Adler and Laura Horvath stood atop the podium at the CrossFit Games. The Denver Nuggets are the 2023 NBA Champions. </div><div><br /></div><div>Political strife continues and the US Supreme Court has stayed in the fray by ruling against Affirmative Action and crippling the Environmental Protection Agency. Even the military is not immune to political rantings as General appointments have been held up by the Pentagon policy of compensating out of state travel for reproductive health.</div><div><br /></div><div>Diya actively toured colleges including Colorado School of Mines, Colorado College, US Air Force Academy, CU Boulder, Princeton, Cooper Union, and Columbia. We hired a college counselor for Diya as well. Diya plans to attend band camp. Nisha did a Basketball camp at the Air Force Academy and AUMC camp and has been going to drop in volleyball and basketball. It was a very hectic summer supporting Diya’s internship in Colorado Springs.</div><div><br /></div><div>Diya did band again and Nisha played volleyball in the Fall.</div><div><br /></div><div>With Covid somewhat subsiding it was nice to have a full travel and athletic schedule.</div><div><br /></div><div>Best Wishes for 2024!</div><div><br /></div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-39243071273670534212024-02-23T11:17:00.000-08:002024-02-26T11:26:43.633-08:0020 Year Blog AnniversaryBelieve it or not, June 29 will mark 20 years since my first post as tech-mba. <div><br /></div><div>After a handful of posts in 2004 while I was working at Sun Microsystems and pursuing my MBA at CU Boulder, I took a short hiatus until 2007. <div><br /></div><div>2007 offered some posts on family life, coin collecting, poker and a few other topics.</div><div><br /></div><div>2008 started with an India trip report, then got into tech toys, training articles, activities and pop culture commentary.</div><div><br /></div><div>2009 continued with a lot of training and lifestyle posts. I brought it home and used to 3 ring binders, file folders and storage totes in a clean, functional manner.<div><br /></div><div>Flash forward a couple of years. I had not seen the need for a label maker in the last two years. All of a sudden, I wanted one to be able to customize medals for an event I am hosting. A simple 3 row label that says</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">CO Spring Fling</div><div style="text-align: center;">March 17, 2024</div><div><div style="text-align: center;">Women's Sr Champion</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Four labels total with Men's/Women's/Jr/Sr. While not as classy as engraving, certainly easier and sustainable. Especially if I make an attempt to start recycling awards.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">So I wanted a label maker. As I used a Dymo Rhino 5200 in the past, I wanted to stick with that. They are around $150 online and label reels are around $20 each.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Fortunately, I looked in the secondary market and a Dymo Rhino 6000 close to my house. These have been discontinued and replaced with the 6000+ in 2017. They can still be found on Amazon (new $415, used $215). The seller (Kenneth Faherty) originally listed the item at $225, then dropped the price to $150. He was willing to drop it another $25 and I picked it up for $125. It came with the case and charging cable and had a 3/8" ribbon permanent vinyl (18443) still installed so I was able to test it. It works great and I labeled a few 3-ring binders that I kept mixing up.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">It can accommodate all ribbon sizes from 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" and 1" and prints between 1-5 lines depending on ribbon width. I will likely pick up a 3/4" ribbon for the medals. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Dymo Labels include:</div><div style="text-align: left;">Self Laminating - Protection from oils and solvents</div><div style="text-align: left;">Flexible Nylon - Wires, cables and rounded surfaces</div><div style="text-align: left;">Permanent Polyester - Shelves, bins, beams</div><div style="text-align: left;">Heat Shrink - Tubing</div><div style="text-align: left;">Industrial Vinyl - Indoor/Outdoor</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Dymo branded tape is on the order of $20 per 3 meter cartridge. Off brand compatible tape is typically $20 for a 5 pack of the same length. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-22765200396697579432024-02-11T21:02:00.000-08:002024-02-11T21:02:43.115-08:00What the Constitution Means to MeI had the opportunity to take in a wonderful play at the Savoy Theater downtown. "What the Constitution Means to Me" lived up to the Pulitzer Prize winning hype. The play is set in the 1970's as a 15 year old girl competes in American Legion scholarship contests to raise money for college. She is tasked with making a personal connection with the Constitution and does so with family history and personal decisions. A big focus is on the 9th Amendment and the 14th Amendment Section 1.<div><br /></div><div>The interpretation by the Supreme Court is also taken up and Roe v Wade and Castle Rock v Gonzales were particularly compelling arguments and certainly highlighted women's rights, domestic abuse and violence towards women in general.</div><div><br /></div><div>The closing scenes were a flash to a real time debate on whether or not to abolish the constitution and create a new one. It was cast by the lead actress and a 17 year old local high school student. It was compelling as well. The Constitution is one of the few world constitutions with negative rights rather than positive rights.</div><div><br /></div><div>It drew uncomfortable parallels between the nations Founding Fathers and historic Supreme Court decisions that have aged well and the current Executive Branch, Congress and Supreme Court decisions. I kind of want to watch it on Prime Video and show the kids.</div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-25740885229106801342024-02-05T08:06:00.000-08:002024-02-06T20:16:30.581-08:00Everlast Punching Bag<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqduPMpqQiBPCB7czWeARPJ-xD9YDYTUy26G0o6OEtqDFeVcbPW_14_QqNnBjsYZo-0K3d4runuNhKnwl665ZjS2fT5bRCx97ydSxbNZyuJ3UwIMVnAGBWRM0TQqZ7rBtk7xRBBTwaZ_fgVjxsbv04VNM81eBtgD6CCIicty57PF-hFHh9CJbsdA/s739/20240203_140804.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="739" data-original-width="554" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqduPMpqQiBPCB7czWeARPJ-xD9YDYTUy26G0o6OEtqDFeVcbPW_14_QqNnBjsYZo-0K3d4runuNhKnwl665ZjS2fT5bRCx97ydSxbNZyuJ3UwIMVnAGBWRM0TQqZ7rBtk7xRBBTwaZ_fgVjxsbv04VNM81eBtgD6CCIicty57PF-hFHh9CJbsdA/s320/20240203_140804.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div>I had no idea how popular this would be when I listed it for sale. I purchased this new on January 17, 2015 and have enjoyed the vehicle. It is comfortable and drives well. The exterior and interior have met my expectations with only minor cosmetic issues. It was purchased for $25,000 and I opted for a lifetime extended warranty that was an extra $1,500 at the time.<div><br /></div><div>Maintenance has included regular oil changes, cabin air filters, engine air filters and wiper blades. At 96,000 miles, I am on my third battery and third set of tires.</div><div><br /></div><div>There have also been some odd parts that have broken/gone missing like engine air filter disconnect and AC test access door cover. </div><div><br /></div><div>Out of the ordinary repairs have included the liftgate (2015, 2023), rear differential (2019), radio head unit (2019), exhaust sensor (2019), Idle bent tensioner, idler pulley, serpentine belt (2021). Some of these were covered by the 3 year, 36,000 mile bumper to bumper. The rear differential was covered by the 5 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Everything else has been covered by the extended warranty. The serpentine belt is designed to wear out and was not covered.</div><div><br /></div><div>Today, it is in the shop for a radiator leak and they are going to repair and output shaft seal (driveshaft seal) and the both the driver and passenger control arms. The output shaft seal was leaking. The issue with the control arms was detected during the test drive. I am beyond impressed at the attention to detail that the dealership is providing.</div><div><br /></div><div>They recommended a fuel service ($100) and brake flush ($100). I will likely knock each of these out at my next oil changes.</div><div><br /></div><div>Approaching 100,000 miles, I will be due to replace the spark plugs for around $300 and possible the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve for another $100.</div><div><br /></div><div>The sum total of the repairs would be $1500 + $500 + $1000 = $3000 which would push me past wanting to own the vehicle. The KBB value is down to $9,000.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyGpB4mxnOTCFK3cfyzvn4Thr0EyJmsrWq9o6VbRhBrJ2xwSd-ESn8InmDmu8xQ5ecGucskXQexQCI' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-78318774892738901122024-01-04T12:09:00.000-08:002024-01-04T12:09:52.409-08:00London 2023<div class="separator" style="clear: both; There is a tremendous amount of history in the city and the museums are free and offer some of the finest collections in the world.</div><div><br /></div><div>The accommodations were great and I really liked the Union Jack Club. I did not sample too much local fair, but I did really like the sandwiches at our hotel and I tried fish and chips at two different venues. It is fed by the piped Arnett-Harriman Ditch. It is named after George W. Harriman, who was called by historian Wilbur F. Stone" the father of the storage reservoir system." Harriman, the son of a shoemaker, came from Canada by way of Wisconsin. Once in Colorado, he began working in the hotel business in Central City and in Kenosha Park, on Park County. In 1870, he started his ranch in Bear Creek Valley where he began homesteading with 160 acres which he eventually increased to 850 acres. He took over the two-year-old Arnett Ditch, completed it and renamed it Harriman Ditch. He built the reservoir in 1873, which also bears his name. The mileage was only 2000 since the last oil change, but still important.<div><br /></div><div>Driving home the oil warning light went on. I returned the the dealership. They checked the oil level, drain plug and verified no leaks and then reset the light using a nifty <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfXjV26CMNU">trick</a> with the fuse panel.</div><div><br /></div><div>Driving home again, the oil warning light again kicked on. I returned to the dealership which offered a full diagnostic. They got my a Lyft home and kept the car overnight.</div><div><br /></div><div>Wednesday the recommendation was replacing the oil pressure sensor which was experiencing an intermittent short. This kind of made sense, but turned out to be an expensive fix at $491.05 + $68.75 shop fee + $23.33 tax = $583.13.</div><div><br /></div><div>This is the first repair the vehicle has needed. Everything else has been routine (albeit expensive) maintenance.</div><div><br /></div><div>My plan is still to keep the car for the girls to drive back and forth from school for the next four years and then either keep as a spare vehicle or sell. I would not feel comfortable sending them away for college with this and will likely purchase a new vehicle.</div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-58687961969216879632023-11-05T14:53:00.003-08:002023-11-05T14:53:47.164-08:00Deka.Mile<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgywz3a6am3Z5dkoWm5QghPIxwBpCUwKKVZHlkT59VcAHJAch1hSnS2pUu4QxSO18PmH-V4vQfrT37DaCqy_cxiNW8VvFwD3GoRfLTScrvIo3g-z8pSZJf7N7N2CErW97vD7Rato2HyCEumohq2gjtvlKHlxvfgyWylGQuj1dGyyV71Z8bgw5Ee3Q/s8160/20231105_102516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="8160" data-original-width="6120" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgywz3a6am3Z5dkoWm5QghPIxwBpCUwKKVZHlkT59VcAHJAch1hSnS2pUu4QxSO18PmH-V4vQfrT37DaCqy_cxiNW8VvFwD3GoRfLTScrvIo3g-z8pSZJf7N7N2CErW97vD7Rato2HyCEumohq2gjtvlKHlxvfgyWylGQuj1dGyyV71Z8bgw5Ee3Q/s320/20231105_102516.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEo-mi-99ORPqEe1kot9GJ4uXa3zoO8v0-CNiKlZ0rdtrm4b6kZJsEHC_XC_CGTUVs9hiYsl6o8U77KEYsJGtRr-k95qcW6qGvr6w8MRmmfQZKeAiDltMBk2O2LsMTS_A0bDhyphenhyphen9ivGF4Ln7TtTGJ8Ss-KImokllSdU2_8NH_nHu_vai1qkNRfEbQ/s8160/20231105_102005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="8160" data-original-width="6120" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEo-mi-99ORPqEe1kot9GJ4uXa3zoO8v0-CNiKlZ0rdtrm4b6kZJsEHC_XC_CGTUVs9hiYsl6o8U77KEYsJGtRr-k95qcW6qGvr6w8MRmmfQZKeAiDltMBk2O2LsMTS_A0bDhyphenhyphen9ivGF4Ln7TtTGJ8Ss-KImokllSdU2_8NH_nHu_vai1qkNRfEbQ/s320/20231105_102005.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I had a chance to try a Deka.Mile this morning. Deka is part of the Spartan family and they have 3 different events. Deka.Strong, Deka.Mile and Deka.Fit have the same 10 zones with varying run distances either no running, 0.1 miles or 0.5km respectively between stations.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Matt was my judge and although I registered for 10:00, I was able to start with the 9:30 group. We started with the runs which felt fine (despite my left calf tweak on Friday). It was a steady recovery jog until the 9th run when I started to walk.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Zone 1 - 30 Ram Alt Reverse Lunge (55#) - These felt surprisingly good. I went roughly 12/10/8 and finished in 3 sets.</li><li>Zone 2 - 500m Row - Easy, averaged 2:15 pace.</li><li>Zone 3 - 20 Box Jump/Step Over (24") - This was tough. I was pretty steady, but taking longer pauses on the last 10</li><li>Zone 4 - 25 med ball sit-up (20#) - Surprisingly this felt good also. I went 15/5/5 to finish in 3 sets</li><li>Zone 5 - 500m ski erg - Felt good, averaged 2:35ish pace</li><li>Zone 6 - 100m Farmer's Carry (2x60#) - Weight was fin, but I was moving slow. Finished 70 meters did a quick shake out and then finished the last 30 meters.</li><li>Zone 7 - 25 cal air bike - This kind of sucked. I did not really set up the bike well for efficiency. I should have had the seat a little higher and further back.</li><li>Zone 8 - 20 dead ball shoulder over (60#) - This lit me up. I was going steady for 9 reps and then was doing sets of 3. I was completely gassed.</li><li>Zone 9 - 100m Tank Push/Pull - This was a decent steady state effort. Kind of like the assualt bike, the harder you push/pull, the more resistance the tank delivers. Despite still being gassed, I moved well. I would like to practice with this more. This was the toughest on my calf.</li><li>Zone 10 - 20 Ram Burpees (44#) - Felt fine, but still completely gassed. I did a couple of good ones and then the turned into grief burpees. I do like this movement and would consider buying a ram just to work on this and the lunges.</li></ul></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My time of 33:42 was at the faster end of what I expected. I was targeting 30-40 minutes expecting 2:30-3:00 per zone, 11 minute run time and transitions.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Overall a really fun and well run event. They had about 6 stations set up, but were only running 3-4 athletes at the same start time. My calf being 100% would have helped some. Being prepared to work for 35 minutes would have been much better.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">To truly prep for the event, I would need to get a 44# ram, 55# ram, 60 pound dead ball, air bike, and tank which would cost nearly $2,000. I would be better off training at Manic Training Highlands Ranch a couple of times per week. As a stop gap, I would like to purchase a ram for around $100 and possibly a dead ball ($90 from Titan Fitness).</div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-38985854403282260372023-11-05T13:26:00.003-08:002023-11-05T13:26:23.632-08:00Ski VestPicked up a sweet little Marker Ski Vest today from AJ Workman who happened to be associated with one of the sponsors of the Park City World Cup Races in 1997. Logo'd with Chevy Truck and Salt Lake City 2002. Perfect condition. Does not even look like it was ever worn. For me it will be a perfect outer layer for spring skiing with bibs on.<div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHHW2PKCwHeD43h0KuPEyqt9XdGfEv2sZ7vAT41T1Pi64D0NiCLkIReT4j5Mr0twO88qckX1JeIWir4UzkcfS_DEwRbFfUK9y_VsLodfTn8CYMeyiARsMMn7mbg6AGh8HHyzCWpx4m3NzvCWCK_Fy7iqkzO3b9DgEc1XPW6DwTLoYRgM660-5kzQ/s960/256570972_6658095357564367_79629304771884997_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; This book provided a good foundation for me.</div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-25447838462860288632023-10-26T08:14:00.003-07:002023-10-31T10:47:55.122-07:00D'Evelyn Marching BandMy high schooler has competed in Band for the past several years.<div><br /></div><div>2023 - Junior - Sweet Swan of Avon (3A State Champions)</div><div><br /></div><div>2022 - Sophomore - Outlaw (3A State Champions, Legacy) + N 8th</div><div><br /></div><div>2021 - Freshman - Dream, wood nymphs (3A State Champions, Bands of America, Legacy) + Winter Percussion</div><div><br /></div><div>2020 - 8th Grade - Virtual Band - Covid Year - Did not participate</div><div><br /></div><div>2019 - 7th Grade - Cross Country</div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-26579986285887923932023-10-26T07:48:00.003-07:002023-10-26T07:48:42.940-07:00L3 VolleyballMy daughter finished L3 Volleyball yesterday. She seemed to enjoy herself, made some good friends and learned the fundamentals of competitive volleyball.<div><br /></div><div>The team had a rough year going 3-15 overall and 2-7 in league play. They showed constant improvement and won there last two matches.</div><div><br /></div><div>I did enjoy the stats that are published by <a href="https://www.maxpreps.com/co/denver/develyn-jaguars/athletes/nisha-gupta/?careerid=eco2fdlbfbc44">Max Preps</a>:</div><div><br /></div><div>Attacking: (9th)</div><div>Sets Played: 24</div><div>Kills: 3</div><div>Attacks: 18</div><div>Errors: 6</div><div><br /></div><div>Serving: (9th)</div><div>Service Attempts: 18</div><div>Service Errors: 10</div><div><br /></div><div>Blocking: 0 (NA)</div><div><br /></div><div>Digging: (9th)</div><div>Digs: 4</div><div>Dig Error: 4</div><div><br /></div><div>Serve Receiving: (9th)</div><div>Receptions: 21</div><div>Reception Error: 9</div><div><br /></div><div>The starting (6) and Libero led all of the statistics. </div><div><br /></div><div>The L3 team consisted of (8) Freshman and (4) Sophomore athletes.</div><div><br /></div><div>There were (12) girls on the team with a reasonably confident starting (6) plus a Libero defensive specialist. Of the (5) girls typically on the bench, most got some playing time when all was lost or the rare occasion when the team was within a few points of a win. I think that was a good approach as L3 is a development team with some of the girls moving up to JV next season while others continue in L3 or find another sport to try.</div><div><br /></div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7484159.post-64298665328394123342023-10-25T16:04:00.004-07:002023-10-25T16:05:38.354-07:00Florida - October 2023<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDGt7_Gf7PklZ9ikFXwZIjYtrp88MMWIvSc72k6n9jTSG0sku9e8RlV1MXwyJL3jowOsF8_BrXBPD-RWYwKz6PqMVALkgcwMG69MFb5dZX8xD5E9wh_sVh4Cy0xW7uUUg5TWyM4AuND95P0Fhd4r5wn5BcH2H7LJ2fLOZp9L9D9W-YtpYlxtx1VQ/s3648/20231020_151148.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2736" data-original-width="3648" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDGt7_Gf7PklZ9ikFXwZIjYtrp88MMWIvSc72k6n9jTSG0sku9e8RlV1MXwyJL3jowOsF8_BrXBPD-RWYwKz6PqMVALkgcwMG69MFb5dZX8xD5E9wh_sVh4Cy0xW7uUUg5TWyM4AuND95P0Fhd4r5wn5BcH2H7LJ2fLOZp9L9D9W-YtpYlxtx1VQ/s320/20231020_151148.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1iZfU-7pBeHwGIVhTJXd16eP_-AcMI4q847MQkwKhCwu8yDZc00xCfNkNZvrKXW2mlnfP2KSa61w6n0UvoFIEQv4lIyoMAm_IeLNPwNR-_CpoBTx3ohvvBoOWMOF3DwCSsvF0lkOH0AT7OYybclXT016_9utH5jUvhKOWXnBL0kJTlb-JSRP3NA/s8160/20231020_202913.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="8160" data-original-width="6120" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1iZfU-7pBeHwGIVhTJXd16eP_-AcMI4q847MQkwKhCwu8yDZc00xCfNkNZvrKXW2mlnfP2KSa61w6n0UvoFIEQv4lIyoMAm_IeLNPwNR-_CpoBTx3ohvvBoOWMOF3DwCSsvF0lkOH0AT7OYybclXT016_9utH5jUvhKOWXnBL0kJTlb-JSRP3NA/s320/20231020_202913.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOMdAYbrzFf1-n3PSU4-ZDduYu3KbUN1gkoUb_KgGbIgMIlOkj9RPKzj2oKKtjGLteOC3j97T5zj2C1EDgrbd7AjS1Y0uzcvz-s-y3x5-fQ87ZCg0b3IKuexmk0TV7jlOPAouKPqktaLT97bXoPb3RYt7BlV2lI4c4tbsc9jBxGzGxNs8-ZsCsEw/s8160/20231021_191940.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="8160" data-original-width="6120" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOMdAYbrzFf1-n3PSU4-ZDduYu3KbUN1gkoUb_KgGbIgMIlOkj9RPKzj2oKKtjGLteOC3j97T5zj2C1EDgrbd7AjS1Y0uzcvz-s-y3x5-fQ87ZCg0b3IKuexmk0TV7jlOPAouKPqktaLT97bXoPb3RYt7BlV2lI4c4tbsc9jBxGzGxNs8-ZsCsEw/s320/20231021_191940.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8bik-MyAnL-oG25IFa9Dpes7RFwXFLx_PC2vWuV0k1eTczDifRF6_ldrT5hoydC9wBkD3jDC1EF7IzSLEFe9rFvwLz1UgG8IUcy5uKZ9r_yBqpRl9s0Gpvgl0ocSh8i3GRB0GWRYyTIeY9rQ32FkpeEaOo1zumEq64GyAu7PK3FIcr3tT1Q0SlQ/s8160/20231022_144824.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="6120" data-original-width="8160" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8bik-MyAnL-oG25IFa9Dpes7RFwXFLx_PC2vWuV0k1eTczDifRF6_ldrT5hoydC9wBkD3jDC1EF7IzSLEFe9rFvwLz1UgG8IUcy5uKZ9r_yBqpRl9s0Gpvgl0ocSh8i3GRB0GWRYyTIeY9rQ32FkpeEaOo1zumEq64GyAu7PK3FIcr3tT1Q0SlQ/s320/20231022_144824.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div>We were back in Florida for a family vacation. This was a relatively short trip, but still good to get away and spend some time with family.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Wednesday</b> - Evening flight out, took a while to get rental car and drive to my Father in law's place.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Thursday</b> - Slept in, went to Tijuana Flats for lunch and drove to Tampa. While my brother in law lives within the city limits, they are 20ish minutes north of downtown Tampa (near Lutz). Hung out at the pool and had homemade Indian food for dinner.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Friday</b> - I went to CrossFit Lutz, then Legacy Coins and Collectibles and finally a meeting before heading back home for Beach Day! We drove to MacDill AFB home of Central Command and played on the beach, but did not really get in the water. MacDill has its own beach and marina adjacent to an RV park, but the gulf waters were a little murky for my tastes. We should have brought some beach toys or at least a frisbee to play with. We had lunch at Charley's near the BX. That night we got pizza for dinner and later went out for ice cream at Jeremiah's</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Saturday</b> - Carrollwood Day School 5K followed by Halloween Spooktacular at the Avila Golf & Country Club. Good food, live band, face painting, caricatures and bouncy castles.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Sunday</b> - Easy day, followed by Navratri celebration at the Indian Convention and Cultural Center. Really nice facility. Flew back to Denver. Evening flight again, but without checking bags we got to parking spot quickly and were home by 11:30 PM.</div>Sanjiv Guptahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05343642059105634645noreply@blogger.com0
