Human Resources

The highlight for today was my annual performance review. It has come to be regarded as a necessary evil, rather than an honest opportunity to review the past year and make plans for success in the upcoming year. As it turns out am being reviewed for the year ending December 2003 and am planning goals for the year ending 2004. Even if we overlook that it is nearly July, the bottom line was not suggestions to improve certain aspects of work performance, but rather to be informed of a merit increase in base salary. This salary change can not be seen as reward, incentive or even retention oriented. If I did not work with self motivated, loyal individuals this process would have a negative impact on our teams performance.
