Gearing up for Spring

I recently watched “Invincible” for the second time. It is one of those feel good sports movies that have been so popular the past decade. For those in the mood for a re-cap several of my favorites include:

Rudy (football)
Remember the Titans (football)
Hoosiers (basketball)
American Flyers (bicycling)
Prefontaine (track)
Lagaan (cricket)

In addition to the feel good aspect of rooting for the underdogs or reliving the stories of legends, entertainment like this can be a good motivator to exercise more or make this “the” year. The quotes are poking fun at those of us with annual resolutions that have fallen by the wayside.

At one time I considered myself quite the weekend warrior. Today it is tough to make that claim as the off season gets longer and longer, I participate in fewer sports and even the weekends are no guarantee that I will get outdoors. I have been in the gym in fits and spurts, but that is the way it goes.

Several of my hobbies have fallen by the wayside as I have lost touch with activity partners and have not kept myself in shape for some activities. I have not actively trained for solo hobbies either. In addition to re-living the glory days, having children may give me the opportunity to dabble again.
