Daddy needs a new pair of shoes

I recently picked up a pair of the Saucony Pro Grid Omni6 running shoes. I have worn Saucony shoes since high school. They replaced a pair of crappy Footjoy running shoes which nearly turned me off of the sport. Fortunately my Mom was willing to pick me up a pair of shoes which fit my foot well and were comfortable for miles. I have not experimented with anything else and still prefer going to a running store even if it costs me an extra $10-$20/pair. I consider that my contribution to allow local running stores to stay in business.

Interestingly enough, I have yet to wear them outside. I have been running exclusively on the treadmill. One of the motivators for the new pair of shoes was that my prescription orthotics were slipping in my old shoes and seem to hold better in my current shoes. In reading a running survey, I was surprised to learn that 15% of survey participants ran with prescription orthotics. Somehow that knowledge made me feel less special.

The other motivator was the concrete paths around my office. I have read the gamut of works which claim that running on concrete is awful or no different than running on the treadmill. Either way, I can honestly claim, that the new kicks are softer and more comfortable than my old kicks.
