Zack & Miri are a decade beyond the teen movie crowd. These two are on the eve of their 10 year high school reunion as they come to terms with the state of their lives. Zack works at a coffee shop and I don't even recall how Miri failed to contribute her share of the rent. The plot from there is the adventures in casting, writing, and filming a porno which would hopefully sell 1000 copies at $20 each to get them out of hock and set for the near future.
The film is a series of sophomoric humor that teeters between racial and just plain gross jokes. The overall theme of Zack & Miri moving beyond friends since grade school to something more is pleasant enough.
Overall, I would not recommend Zack & Miri as a rental. I gave the Zack character a lot of credit based on Superbad, but he just failed to play out as an older character.
