The Jakarta Band

Well last night the family finally rounded up to head to the Flatirons Village concert series. We are always on the lookout for good family activities and this seemed to fit the bill nicely. The criteria are pretty loose and include being close to home and having food.

The Flatirons mall has become a favorite hangout based on the indoor play area, the outdoor park and the sand box. This is combined with a well appointed food court which can usually count on at minimum a chicken sample along with an ice cream sample. The fact that they had live music is nearly an afterthought, but our 2 year old loves dancing.

The Jakarta Band is billed as old school funk and R&B. They live up to their billing and covered a variety of popular music. The beer garden was set up pretty well with a small dance area up front and plenty of improvised seating with most people bringing lawn chairs. As coolers were not permitted in the beer garden, the cooler crowd set their lawn chairs up just outside.

The crowd was pretty laid back as the serious partiers should have better options than the mall at 6:30PM on a Thursday night. It was very kid friendly with Red Robin giving out balloons and lemonade, Rubio’s giving out chips and salsa, Village Tavern giving out chicken samples and Bloom sampling their Asian chicken salad.

P.S. Believe it or not, this is my 200th post!
