Frank Shorter Run for Kids Health

The race organizers put on a great 5K, despite the cooler weather and howling winds.  The event was very well attended with lots of kids on the course, both running and in jogging strollers.  The organization and sponsors were great.  Some notables include members of the CU football team who were at the start and finish line.  Hopefully a lot of money was raised as this is a very worthy cause.

My own race was not that great.  I got off to a steady start with miles 1 and 2 and 10:07 and 9:43, before imploding with a t 10:50 third mile.  I left it all out on the course with my heart rate averaging 166 bpm with spikes above 170 on several sections.  In fact, I set a new max heart rate at 182 bpm, which is probably not in my best interest as a 41 year old male.  I finished in 31:37 which is well behind my annual PR.

A friend of mine had a great race finishing in just under 26 minutes and taking 11th in his age group.  I was planning on keeping up with him, but in retrospect had no chance.
