My older daughter crossed another mile stone this past
week. We took the training wheels off
her bike and she decided that she was going to learn to ride. It started off a little disconcerting and I
was holding her nearly all of the time.
After the first couple of sessions, I started letting her go, but she
would not get very far and took quite a few spills. I actually did not think she would get it and
we would try again in six months.
Then I got the idea to balance around her shoulders and just
pop her upright if she started to lean.
After a couple of days of this, she was doing remarkably well. Then on Saturday June 1st she just
took off and rode about 50 yards before hitting the brakes, putting a foot down
and looking back to see where I was.
She still has a tough time getting going and her steering
leaves a bit to be desired, but overall, it was a real accomplishment. It will only be a matter of time before I won’t
be able to keep up with her when I am running along side her.
