2014 Race Calendar

I usually get a pretty good jump on putting together my race calendar, but this year I haven’t given it nearly as much thought.  After a year off of multisport racing, I am ready to get back in the fray and have selected the following races:

April 12th – Big Sky Duathlon – This has been a great event hosted by Racing Underground and this year it is on a new course around Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.  It is a run-bike-run duathlon and a great way to start the season.  I also considered the April 27th Westside Duathlon and may yet do this instead.

June 5th – Stroke & Stride – This is a fun Boulder event that has long been a staple of my season.  I am planning on opening with a 750m swim and 5K run.  The short option is nice, because I typically have not put in a lot of miles open water swimming.  Without Limits has been running this event since last year and I would like to give them a shot.

August 17th – YOLO Triathlon – This event is being hosted by 5430 Sports and will be held at the Aurora Reservoir.  The water is usually great and the rest of the course is pretty flat.  This will be my “A” race for the year and my first triathlon since 2010.  The last time I did an Olympic distance event was 1989 (Memphis in May).

September 20th – Prairie Dog Half Marathon – As a 3W Race Ambassador, I would like to participate in this event.  It is late enough in the season for me to have time to get some long runs in and enjoy the course.  The race in 2013 was the highlight of my season and I would certainly like a repeat performance.

I may still sign-up for the Denver Century Ride (June 14th) and will certainly participate in road running events as they crop up.

One event I wanted to get on the Calendar with Karen Horbostel Memorial Time Trial Series.  Unfortunately this event is Wednesday nights with a 4:30 start from Cherry Creek State Park.  It is just not practical for me to participate.  Instead, I am going to commit to an “unofficial” time trial series on the Westside Duathlon course.  This will be a 9 mile loop starting and finishing at North Area Athletic Complex (NAAC) at 64th and SH 93.  I will target the same nights starting Wednesday April 16th and finishing May 21st.

I love the stroke & stride series as well. I'll see you on the course!
