Where do you See Yourself in 5 Years?

I was making small talk with a new acquaintance at a Halloween Party.  The conversation drifted around a variety of topics including work, raising kids, body building and the value of adversity.  It took a serious turn when he asked, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"  I answered that I would like to be in a research based role in transportation 5 years from now.

It has been a really long time since someone has asked me that.  Historically, that was a pretty standard interview question and I would often try to pose it to myself both professionally and personally.

In 2025, I will be 54 years old.  My first born will me be in college, my second born will be driving and my wife and I will have been married for 20 years.  Where do I see myself?

Professionally, I do still see myself at CDOT, but would be OK if I had another career change.

I do see our family as stable, possibly in a bigger house or different neighborhood (or state or country), but together.  I see myself still having an open relationship with my daughters and a better relationship with my wife.  Maybe time to re-read fighting for your marriage.

Physically, I see myself fit and energetic.  Hopefully still willing to learn and play new sports.  I see myself with a normal A1C and blood pressure among other health indicators.

Spiritually, I see myself better versed with Hindu Scripture.  I see myself engaged in AA, getting to a variety of meetings (finding my tribe as it were) and involved in service work.
