Triathlon Training Update

15 weeks down, 9 weeks to go between March 27 announcing my intention to complete the Littlefoot Sprint Triathlon and the September 10 race date.

Over the past 15 weeks, my goal was to swim-bike-run at least once a week.
  • Swim - Pretty good, with swims recorded 11 of 15 weeks.  The past 4 weeks have been all open water.
  • Bike - Not so good, with bikes recorded  8 of 15 weeks.
  • Run - Pretty good, with runs recorded 11 of 15 weeks.  My mileage relative to race distance is lacking as well.
The Littlefoot Triathlon is a 750 meter swim, 15K bike and 5K run.  I am becoming increasingly comfortable with the swim distance.  750 meters is on the order of my training volume, but I do take breaks.  I should be able to manage that distance in 25 minutes.  15K bike is a mere 9.3 miles.  I do not plan to be fast, but should be able to cover that in 45 minutes.  The 5K run will be tough.  My typical training runs are 1.5 to 2.0 miles.  I will probably do some walking, but should finish in 35 minutes.  With long transitions, I am considering a 2 hour event.

Of the 18 men 50-54 who participated in 2021, that puts me squarely in last place.  Swims ranged from 14-21 minutes.  Bike from 26 to 45 minutes and run from 23 to 42 minutes.
