Setting the Bar

While I no longer consider myself an avid bicyclist, I still enjoy riding regularly and even set mileage goals for myself. This year I set a target of 300 miles which is setting the bar pretty low. Unfortunately my odometer went out half way through the season and I haven't kept track as well as I would like, but I am guessing I am in the neighborhood of 200 miles which is well below my goal.

Still I thought it was a good start as I rode most weekends (2-3X per month) over the summer and rode between 15-20 miles each outing. This was until I heard that a colleague of my wife's put in 1140 miles last month!!! 1140 miles was built on a 36 mile daily commute. The 18 miles one way was about the distance I cover when I have my weekend ride.

I am a bit deterred, but have a plan to get my odometer fixed and commute myself once a week next summer. I will shoot for casual fridays as my commute day so that I don't have to worry about pressed shirts and pants. Bear in mind my commute will only be 12 miles in each direction.
