The Dentist

A trip to the dentist is rarely a good thing. At best you are talking about a 20 minute cleaning every 6 months. Often times you are talking about more extensive work as was the case for me this morning. My hygienist had noted a cavity a couple of weeks back and I was a little surprised, although it has been a couple of years since I required dental work. On arriving at the dentist’s office, it also turns out that an old filling started to show signs of decay around it. As you would imagine, this filling was on the opposite side of my mouth requiring both halves to be anesthetized.

Having a good dentist is similar to having a good mechanic. Even though the visit is unpleasant, it is nice when a job can be done as painlessly as possible. So far, my tooth is doing OK. The visit started with topical anesthetic, then a few shots, then the drilling and finally the filling.

We will see how the next few days ago. I guess the cavity was deep enough to raise the concern of tooth death which would require a root canal. I have never had a root canal, but am not anxious to experience that anytime soon.

Root canals are not so bad, tech-mba. They are actually less painful than fillings. Happy brushing and flossing!
