A few weeks back I posted a write up of the Garmin Edge 705. I also followed this post up with a May 2nd moratorium before dropping $550 on a bicycling computer which I would struggle to justify even if I were riding daily.
As luck would have it, REI is having a sale which starts May 2nd and included is the Garmin Forerunner 305. It is a slightly bulky member of the Garmin fitness family and provides everything I am looking for with the exception of barometric altimeter. The best part is the $165 price tag which is 44% off of the regular $299 price. I can use it as an adjunct for my bicycling and running work outs and can upload work out results to a PC.
Will this little gizmo go the way of the Palm or the Rip Roar video player? Only time will tell, but in the immediate term, I am terribly excited to get into GPS and heart rate assisted training in the neighborhood of $200.
