Movie Monday

Today I have a couple of installments as I made it back out to the theater this past weekend.

The Book of ELI is an action adventure film set in a post apocalyptic United States. Denzel Washington’s character is on quest to deliver a book west. It is kind of entertaining with good action scenes, but all and all it was not a winner. I was actually very impressed by the previews for Edge of Darkness and would like to watch this film in the theater as well. Edge of Darkness features Mel Gibson in an updated version of Payback, except in this case he is avenging his daughter.

Whip It was a fun comedy and Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut. It features a great cast and a pleasant coming of age tale in which Bliss is drawn to roller derby while her mother is pushing her in pageantry. The dialogue and pace of the film is great. While it will probably never be a classic it is quite entertaining and a must rent for those drawn to teen comedies like myself.
