Movie Monday

Some long awaited films hit the second run theater and I did not want to let them go by without a viewing.

“Shutter Island” is a psychological thriller about the U.S. Marshals service going to a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane to investigate the disappearance of a patient. The plot moves quickly as the hero begins to question his own sanity. I enjoyed this movie quite a bit and would recommend it to individuals who enjoy thrillers or even dramas.

“Avatar” was a really impressive science fiction film about a mining company’s operation on a distant planet (6 years travel from Earth) in the year 2154. Unfortunately the mining operation is in direct conflict for the original inhabitant’s connection to the land. The mining company has employed a scientific core tasked with communicating with the natives and a military core tasked with providing security. Our hero, Jake Sully, bridges those worlds as a Marine who fills his brothers shoe’s in the science unit. He comes to interact with the locals and forms a bond with them in his avatar body. I can see why the film releasing in 3D was such a big deal. The special effects and cinematography was incredible even in 2D. It is also joins the ranks of my favorite science fiction films which include Gattica and Minority Report
