West Side Duathlon

There is a new race coming to my neck of the woods. I have never participated in a run-bike-run duathlon, but am excited about this event being held in Arvada July 18th. Interestingly, the event starts and finishes at the North Area Athletic Complex (NAAC) which I have recently become interested in as well. The location is pretty close to home and if the family wanted to come out could provide some spectator friendly racing.

I like the Stroke & Stride format because you can see the swimmers take off, run on the beach between laps, transition and then be at the finish line for the out and back run course. The whole thing is over in a little over an hour.

The duathlon will be a little trickier as it starts with a 5K run (about 30 minutes), two 15K loops on the bike about (about 45 minutes each) and then another 5K run. The whole event should last around 2.5 hours but the complex should provide some entertainment and plenty of opportunities to see the race field. There is also a short format with only 7K of running and 15k of biking which would finish in about 1.5 hours.

If nothing else, I will definitely ride the bike course and investigate the NAAC in the next couple of weeks. The event is being run by Racing Underground and has a reasonable $65 entry fee.

My husband did one of the Duathlons from Racing Underground last year and really liked it. They seem to put on some good events! I like Duathlons because they're a little different from tris and running events and are a nice way to change things up. You should do it!
