Interlibrary Loans

I have recently discovered and started to take advantage of my local library services. For the past few years, we have been regulars at story time, will check out books and flip through the latest magazines. However, in the past few weeks I have reviewed medical journals stored on microfiche, flipped through reserve books that are on the shelves, downloaded a digital book to my home computer and most recently I have taken advantage of the interlibrary loan feature.

The interlibrary loan feature is particularly enticing as these books not stocked in the Jefferson County library system would have ended up on my list of books to purchase. I have found several out of print books as well which would have ended up costing me a premium to buy used.

It is kind of like peeling an onion and I continue to be pleasantly surprised by the staff and wealth of resources. I feel bad that funding has been cut and the library is no longer open on Mondays. However, my appreciation will hopefully be communicated through public support and tax dollars.
