I recently had a chance to take a trip back to the East
Coast for my cousin’s wedding. It was a
very well done affair with a Christian and Hindu ceremony. It was great to see family from around the
country and the world in attendance.
It was also a good chance to take in some of the sights
related to our national history. In
Philadelphia, we saw Independence Hall, The Liberty Bell, Philadelphia Mint and
the Reading Terminal Market. The Reading
Terminal Market is home to Bassett’s Ice Cream which was featured on The Travel
Channel.
We wanted to get in some beach time and decided to check out
Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. It was a
nice beach with gentle waves and clean water.
The beach front area was very developed and the crowds were the busiest
I remember a beach being in a long time.
Part of this was due to school recently letting out (although my kids
have been out for nearly a month).
Our last stop was Washington, D.C. We were able to do a tour of the Pentagon,
see the USMC Memorial and drive past Arlington Cemetery. We also took in the museums including the Air
& Space museum, National History museum (which featured the Hope Diamond
along with a Bollywood exhibit), and the American History museum (which had a
really nice display on transportation and money). Finally we took in the National Zoo featuring
giant pandas. During a particularly hot
day, we also dropped by the Wilson Aquatic Center which is an incredible
facility for lap swimmers and also had a nice pool for the kids.
