President Elect Donald J. Trump

Congratulations to President Elect Donald J. Trump, who just proved that you do not have to be a career politician to make a difference in America.  You don't have to be a mindless follower of the two party system and can have your own opinions.

Trump overcame a significantly under-financed campaign.  Per the Washington Post, Hillary Clinton enjoyed a $1.3 billion war chest compared to Donald Trumps, relatively paltry $0.8 billion war chest, which proves you can't buy your way into the oval office.

I don't agree with much of what Trump campaigned on during the election cycle.  Truth be told, my values are more closely aligned with Libertarian party principles (socially liberal, fiscally conservative).  However, I have been more upset with past government actions that seemed to have been bullied through (Wall Street bailout and penalties for not buying health insurance).

I agree that the world has changed since World War II and that the scales tipping away from a superpower controlled international community is overdue.  As world citizens we still have to be vigilant against human rights atrocities.  However we always start by making sure our own house is in order.

I have also constantly been suspicious of the Electoral College system, but today concede that it works.  While populations were originally driven by slaves counting as 3/5th of a person and the road to the White House being through Virginia, today small population states are not controlled by high population states.

In other election news, I was pleasantly surprised that assisted suicide is no longer criminalized in Colorado.  I was disappointed that money for schools and sidewalks was not approved by voters.
