I got talked into trying an obstacle course race. Some friends from college are getting together for the Tough Mudder in Mesa, Arizona and with a place to crash and some frequent flyer miles, I decided to give it a whirl.
We signed up for a half mudder which is supposed to be 5-6 miles of running and about at dozen obstacles. I have been running a couple of times/week, but usually only for 3 miles. I have still been doing CrossFit and feel OK about any obstacle that could be thrown at me.
Today I decided to break-in some new footwear.
I tried
Saloman Speedcross 4 (size 9.5) - slightly narrower toe box than I usually run in, springy, good fit
Saucony Peregrine (size 9.5) - fit really well, only 4mm heel to toe drop, not enough for me
Brooks Cascadia (size 10) - close second to the Saloman, not as springy as the Salomon
I ended up going with the Saloman and will take them on a proper trail run this week.
The race is April 9th, so I am already cutting it close, but I am looking forward to the event and seeing some old friends.

The running and obstacles are hard enough, but I don't think I could get through the last electrocution obstacle. Yech! Good luck!!
I think you are allowed to skip obstacles (live wires) by taking a penalty (burpees or run a penalty loop)
