Lakeside Amusement Park

This past week, the family made a trip to Lakeside Amusement Park.  Tucked away in Denver it has a great selection of rides for kids of all ages.  One of the highlights is The Cyclone, a wooden roller coaster that has been in operation since 1940 and has been recognized by the American Coaster Enthusiasts.  It reminded me of a roller coaster we had growing up at a small park called Liberty Land in Memphis.

The outing was part of a school fundraiser, so it was nice to hang out with other elementary school families to kick off summer.  My 8 year old is a bit of a daredevil and wanted to ride everything.  Unfortunately at 48 inches tall she was not able to ride the Wild Chipmunk.  My 10 year old is a bit more reserved, but being around her friends she took on more rides than usual.  The peer pressure has started.

For me and my wife it was a nice time to catch up as I just got back from my first out of town trip for work.

Lakeside certainly has a cozier feel than Elitches.  We have been to Elitches more frequently, but will probably err towards Lakeside in the future.  Fortunately we avoided the games, but there were some attractions we did not have time to do like the paddleboats and mirror maze.
