D'Evelyn kicked off its JV track season with the Golden Demons JV Scrimmage. My daughter was slated to run the 800m and despite running late, I made it there in time to see the girls/boys 800m heats and a couple of the girls 400m heats.
As expected there was a broad disparity in performance with some girls running around 3:20 in the 800m and some going above 4:00 in the 800m. All respectable times for a first outing. The boys were much faster with some running close to 2:10 and even the slower athletes finishing around 3:00.
The girls 400m was quick as well. One of the D'Evelyn runners was in the mid 60s.
Diya paced well, coming through 400m at about 1:58 and slowing in the second lap to finish in 4:08. I was beyond impressed with how much progress she has made. When we were at the track this winter, she was jogging along at my plodding 2:30/400m pace. I hope she continues to enjoy it.
