The doorbell rings followed by a rapid, urgent knocking. I hopped up pretty quickly from watching Master's golf highlights to see a young lady walking across the lawn. I called out "Is everything OK?" and she ran towards the door and I instinctively let her in thinking she maybe in some kind of trouble, fleeing a boyfriend or some abusive situation.
She got inside the house and was on her phone with 911 relating to the operator that Jill was trying to kill her. I am not sure if her name was Jill or there was another person named Jill, but she felt safer in our house and really wanted the lights turned off. It quickly became apparent that this girl was having some kind of psychotic episode. I am not sure if it was drug induced or otherwise.
My wife was on our phone with 911 who was dispatching an ambulance to our address.
After the young lady was seated inside, she went into prayer, hoping Jesus would keep her safe. She then elected to call her friend Jim and place Jim on speaker phone. This is the first time my Spidey senses were tingling and did not want Jim to have my home address with my wife and daughter at home. Instead, I was trying to think through the current situation and was somehow still watching Master's highlights. In retrospect, it probably conveyed a sense of a normal suburban home.
While sitting on the sofa, she wanted to come sit next to me which was a decidedly bad idea. The perception of impropriety is a bad idea. She did stay on her side of the sofa and after about 10 minutes she wanted to leave and made for the foyer. Ratna was thrilled to have her leaving the house. Per our neighbors, she was collected by the ambulance shortly after leaving our house.
For the next 20 minutes, Ratna and I rehashed the event. I probably should not have let her in and maybe should have sat with her outside. What was our liability? What if she accused us of something or fell further into a panic or became violent? What if it had been a scam and people would have rushed our house after she entered? While she was barefoot in a tight top and leggings, she could have potentially had a weapon. An early 30's blonde, about 5'-5" and 130 pounds is not much of a threat, but I certainly was not prepare to subdue anyone.
Finally, after everything subsided, I hear "I can't believe we has somebody over, the house is a mess." This had me laughing hysterically, like I decided to invite people in or maybe we should have offered her something to eat or drink.
I have replayed this in my head a couple of times and the story gets funnier and funnier to me with a little distance.
