After winning the league tournament and the Region 3 tournament, Nisha and Sophia were invited to the State Championship as the number 1 seed. The pressure was on to bring home a title and it made for an exciting (and somewhat anxiety ridden) three days of tennis.
They made it through the opening round against Wellington and the the quarterfinals against Salida on day one only giving up 2 games in both matches. Prospect Ridge was their first test and they moved on in commanding fashion again. They faced Vail Christian in the finals. D'Evelyn previously faced Vail Christian in the beginning of the season winning 7-5, 6-2. The rematch was just as tough, but Nisha and Sophia played really well together. They won the first set 6-2 and were tied in the second set 3-3 before going on a run and ending the second set 6-3 and securing first place medals.
On the year, Nisha had two losses. One with Sophia again Mountain Vista that ended with an 8-10 tie breaker. The second loss was vs Evergreen when Claudia had to fill in for Sophia (7-5, 5-7, 0-1). If you include tryouts, Nisha only lost (4) sets all season and (2) tie break sets all season.
This is Nisha's third season playing tennis. I hope tennis becomes a lifelong sport for her. If not, I hope she looks back on high school tennis fondly.
