Perspective on an Overseas Move

With one daughter in college and another a senior in high school the potential for being expats is more and more realistic.  Starting the fall of 2027 our geographic sphere of residency opens up considerably.  Given our lifestyle, only one of us would have to be reasonably employed for roughly the next 5-10 years before retirement.  After retirement our sphere of residency is only dictated by medical needs and spending time with family.

We would still like visit family:

• Orlando/Tampa
• Memphis
• Austin
• New Jersey
• St. Louis
• TBD

In all likelihood, we would travel back to the US for summer breaks and Christmas whether we were abroad for a set duration or indefinitely.  Our kids would also have home bases with Aunts and Uncles regardless of whether we kept a residence in the US.

I am not sure that I could live out of two suitcases (shoes, clothing, laptop, toiletries) ever again, but I could certainly scale down considerably.

Nice to have

• Golf Clubs
• Bicycle
• Coins / Coin Books
• Dozen additional books - Recovery, Poker, Biographies
• Kitchen Knives
• Photos, memorabilia, decorative items

I could reasonably re-establish household furnishings, kitchen, bedding, home gym, personal sports equipment anywhere in the world.

• Furniture - Beds, sofas, dining tables, dressers, end tables, desks, bookshelves
• Electronics - Televisions, toaster oven, toaster, blender, crock pots
• Yard Maintenance - Lawn mower, weed eater, edger, trimmer, shovels, gardening tools
• Tools - Drill press, corded power tools
• Misc - Cleaning supplies, trash cans, laundry baskets, vacuums, fans, space heaters

I am very attached to a few items, but nearly all are replaceable with the exception of some vintage weight plates and dumbbells.
