The Season is ON, but…

I’m not ready. My best laid plans usually fall apart. In the current case, I am preparing for the Boulder 5430 Sprint Triathlon in 52 days, but am well behind where I would like to be. The event is a 750 meter swim, 17 mile bike and 5K run. I feel OK about the swim and have been swimming at least that distance once/week. My longest bike ride for the year has been 15 miles so that might be OK as well, however the course in Boulder has a lot more hills than I am used to riding. Finally the 5K has me scared. Although I ran a 10K last year, I have been plagued by injuries and my recent runs have been less than 2 miles.

My warm-up event is supposed to be the Boulder Stroke-n-Stride which includes a 750 meter swim followed by a 5K run. This event is 36 days away and I am second guessing mailing my entry form in. I realize it is only $20, but somehow I just don’t feel ready. Hopefully another couple of weeks of injury free running will change all of that.

I ran 15 minutes Sunday and Tuesday without incident. I intend to give my legs a chance to rest and then shoot for a 20-25 minute run on Friday. I am hoping to work up to the 5K distance in 3 weeks, which will give me a chance to rest a little and then complete the Stroke-n-Stride.

Somewhere in that interim, I will also be purchasing a wetsuit so we will see how that goes.
