State of Play

I had the opportunity to see State of Play with Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck and was thoroughly impressed with the thriller set against the backdrop of political scandal. Russell Crowe plays a newspaper man who happens to be friends with a senator investigating the corporate practices of a defense contractor. Ben Affleck plays the senator and does a pretty good job with the role.

The film unfolds pretty quickly and is paced very well. There are a few plot twists and turns to keep things interesting, but not confusing. There were a few sub plots, but nothing worth mentioning. I really enjoyed the story which is timely and eerily foretelling considering the situations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Overall, I would highly recommend this film as a rental.
