Family in Town

Well my parents have come for a visit and it is very nice to have them in town. We don’t get a chance to spend much time together and usually that time is shared with my sisters and their families. It is also kind of hectic as it so often is with house guests. Fortunately my Mom is pretty self sufficient and will take the car to the store and make herself at home in the kitchen.

Interestingly my Dad is low maintenance as well as his expectations have come down significantly. Unlike me, he does not need to be out and about or constantly doing something to maintain his sanity. He is comfortable with a good conversation and keeping up with world events.

The most challenging strain is the changed family dynamic. We have just not had a chance to settle in this year. The year started off with a new baby, then my mother-in-law was in town, then we did some home remodeling, then I hurt my arm, my parents are in town now, and my mother –in-law will be returning in less than two weeks. I often feel like families need to play together to form a cohesive unit and lately we have been in divide and conquer mode to satisfy all of the tasks required by daily living.

Hopefully my parents have a good time and get to know the grandkids a little better.
