Return to Cubicle Land

For the past couple of years, I have had a spacious sliding glass door office. I did not think much of it at the time. The office was just an available space for me to move into. My job does not require that level of privacy. The past couple of days, I have been packing up my office to move into a cubicle. There is some consolidation of employees and a large number of individuals are playing a shell game.

At first glance, the most noticeable difference is the lack of counter space. I have about half the desk space I used to have. As I have been embracing the digital age, this is not a problem. I rarely have multiple files and hard copies of information on my desk.

The other less interesting issue is the lack of a second chair. I don’t get many visitors so it is not a big deal. The more noticeable thing is why I don’t have a chair? There is simply no room for it as the layout prohibits it.

I had 11 boxes of material to move, plus a laptop, monitor, keyboard and foot rest. It was a good opportunity to clear out my older files and unclutter to some degree. I still have a long way to go. If I move again, I would like to be down to 8 boxes.
