I finally broke down and saw the doctor today as I have had a nagging cough that is going on 2 weeks. The result is as I expected. Just get some rest and it should clear up. I can give you some medications for your symptoms, but you will not get better faster.
It is kind of frustrating to hear that. It is also kind of a relief. I do not have the flu, pneumonia or some chronic condition. I have what is most likely a viral respiratory infection that sometimes takes a few weeks to clear up.
The timing of the illness was pretty good as well. It hit after a vacation. My next race is scheduled for March 18th and I should be well by then, even if I missed a few weeks of training. It is not the end of the world. Worst case scenario is a DNS, DNF or DFL. Of course I would like to be healthy all the time. However, I am relieved to not have chronic conditions. It is also nice that physical durability is not critical to my livelihood.
