Racing Season

Racing season is officially here.  I have run a few footraces this year, but no multi-sport events.  I had to scratch the first event from my calendar, but am anxiously awaiting my debut in the Boulder Stroke & Stride.  Unfortunately I have not had much open water practice this year.  Because of that, I am planning the 750 meter swim and 5K run.  Depending on how it goes, I will graduate to the 1500 meter swim next week.

This past weekend, I participated in the CMRA Sand Creek 5M race and to my surprise took 4th in my 40-44 year old age group among 5 competitors.  I was surprised as I have never placed in a CMRA event and would not have placed in most of the other divisions.  The 5th place finisher in the 65-69 year old age group managed 43:29 (to my 47:20) over the same course.

My racing calendar is pretty abbreviated this year.  In addition to the 2 Stroke & Stride events, I am planning on doing the West Side Duathlon.  I had originally planned a Triathlon as well, but have not registered for any events in July or August.

I would really like to turn in a fast bike on the full course (5K-30K-5K) West Side Duathlon course.  I did the event in 2010 and did pretty well on the abbreviated course (2K-15K-5K).  I had not been riding much and the heat was brutal in July 2010.
