Thursday Adventure Run

I have never been a big fan of group training, but I have been forced to admit that exercising with other people causes me to increase my intensity.  I am not sure if it is trying to keep up, trying to impress, or just losing focus on my own.  I decided to participate in Road Runner Sports Second Thursday Adventure Run.  This is actually a really fun format that gets people jazzed about running.

The concept is to run for an hour and stop by check points to collect raffle tickets.  Everybody has an hour to hit as many checkpoints as they care to.  The checkpoints are in different directions and varying distances so competitors must choose their routes and hit the checkpoints.  Knowing the area and having a GPS certainly aids the adventure.  When everybody gets back the raffle and after party take place.  The raffle prizes are really good thanks to all of the sponsors.  I came away with gifts from Little Caesars Pizza, Plato’s Closet and Road Runner Sports.

As I wasn’t sure what I was getting into, I just jumped in behind some runners who obviously knew where a checkpoint was.  It ended up being 1.8 miles away.  I lost sight of them and took a different route back to the store stopping by two other checkpoints I recognized.  I didn’t memorize all 12 checkpoints.  I ended up getting in a nice 3.8 mile run with some fast paces and some stopping at traffic lights.

Thanks to Road Runner Sports in Westminster for sponsoring the event.  I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun night out.
