I recently applied to become an ambassador for a local
racing company (3W Races). They host
numerous events throughout the year and appear to be well connected with the community. However, I only became familiar with them
through a current ambassador.
I think it is great to have a dedicated group of runners to
show up consistently to events, volunteer their time, and provide a smiling
face to welcome newcomers and old timers.
While being a race director can be rewarding, it appears to
be a very challenging endeavor. For most
it is a hobby or avocation. The few
brave souls who try to break even and even manage to give something back to the
community are quite impressive. An
ambassador program seems to be a terrific way to reach out to the community.
My previous experience with brand ambassadors have been professional
athletes and actors who are highly sought after by premier brands. Even smaller companies would prefer to have
someone who is actually winning races to endorse their product. 3W’s name originates from “Do What You Can,
When You Can, With What You Have.” This
is a great message for professional athletes, competitive age groupers, back of
the packers and those getting off of the couch for the first time in years.
I look forward to keeping track of 3W throughout the year
and getting to know more about what they are all about.
