The wife and I had the opportunity to take in a preview
showing of Memphis, the Musical at the Arvada Center for the Arts and
Humanities. The Arvada Center is a great
venue and terrifically convenient from our house. They offer incredible productions that rival
those I have seen anywhere. While I am
not a frequent supporter of the arts, there are usually several performances on
the calendar that capture my interest.
Memphis was one of those performances and I was not
disappointed. I grew up in Memphis and
figured I would enjoy the music if nothing else. I enjoyed much more than the music. It is a great story set in 1950’s Memphis. It is loosely based on the Memphis disc
jockey Dewey Phillips (I had to Wikipedia the based on actual events after the
show).
It is very well cast and Aisha Jackson and Jim Hogan give
tremendous performances. I am sure they
will keep that energy through September 28th.
