Core Power Yoga

Since I opted for the unlimited monthly package at MBS CrossFit, I have the opportunity to attend yoga 4 times/month with Core PowerYoga.  I finally took advantage of it this past weekend and can say without any reservation that Yoga is a great workout.  I think it will be a real asset to my overall wellbeing.

Core Power Yoga offer a variety of classes including:
CorePower 1 – Heated
CorePower 2
Yoga Sculpt
Hot Power Fusion
Hot Yoga
Restorative Yin Yoga

Core Power has studios all around the country and 20 in the Boulder-Denver area.  I went over the Broomfield Flatirons studio for CorePower 1 – Heated with Kelsey.  The studio was clean and inviting.  After filling out some paperwork, I took my wife’s yoga mat and a towel and settled into the studio.  There were 5 of us (3 girls and 2 guys).  Everybody seemed to have some yoga experience except me.  They all had water bottles, but I am not sure when they had a chance to hydrate it seemed like we were always doing something.

The heated was not crazy hot.  It was about 85 degrees with no humidity.  I was sweating just as much from the positions as I was from the temperature.  I can’t recall everything we did, but it was slow and fluid and timed with inhaling and exhaling.  Some of the poses that I do recall include downward dog, warrior, mountain, and pigeon.  Kelsey did a great job of recommending modifications for those of us with less mobility or balance.  She also described the movements to visualize what was going on in your body, for example picture your vertebrae stacking on top of each other or let your head and neck hang.  The floor was always referred to as the earth.

At the end of the session, I felt tired, relaxed, and for some odd reason taller.  It was like a massage, workout and meditation all at the same time.  I am looking forward to attending again.
